Women's Soccer Erupts for Eight Goals in Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - Four goals in the game's first 15 minutes propelled the Shenandoah University women's soccer team to an 8-0 ODAC win over Randolph College on Wednesday afternoon at home.

The Hornets (9-8-2, 4-4-1 ODAC) had seven different goal scorers in the win over the WildCats (7-8-2, 2-7) to help them get above .500 on the season.

RECAP

Shenandoah moved senior Chandler Gallant from the backline up to the front and it paid off less than 60 seconds into the contest. In front of the WildCats' goalie, Gallant headed the ball down to the foot of McKenna Newcome who buried the eighth goal of her first-year campaign.

Minutes later the Hornets gained a corner kick which Gallant took. Gallant passed the ball to Newcome who then dribbled the ball around a defender near the end line and crossed it into the box. The cross deflected off of Kirklyn Wilson and into the bottom of the cage for the quick 2-0 lead.

The Hornets kept the early pressure on Randolph and worked their way back into the box. In the box, Gallant fed a pass down low to Wilson who then pushed the ball immediately back into the center of the box to Gallant, with the senior quickly giving the ball to an open Kaitlyn Wahl for the easy goal.

Nearly six minutes later, a long through ball found the foot of Kayla Jenkins just outside of the box. Jenkins rushed toward the net and was met by a defender and a goalie but evaded the WildCats and rolled the ball into the net for the 4-0 lead.

Audrey Atwell connected with Peyton Lubinsky for the final goal of the first half. Atwell worked the ball from the center of the field out to the right side to Lubinsky. Lubinsky fired her shot into the lower portion of the net from outside the box.

In the 56th minute, a shot from Gallant rattled off the crossbar and to the foot of Wilson. Without any hesitation, Wilson passed the rock to Lauren Duffy for the Hornets' sixth goal.

The scoring continued when Kassidy Collins had the ball just shy of the net, but passed it out to Ashley Brooks who took one touch and first the ball past the goalie for the senior's first career goal.

The final goal of the game for Shenandoah came as an own goal off a Randolph defender in the 84th minute.
