Redfearn and Hornets Race Their Way Past Tigers in 35-7 Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – In its final home game of the season, the Shenandoah University football team defeated Hampden-Sydney College in ODAC play, 35-7, on Saturday afternoon for the team's senior day.

The Hornets (7-2, 4-2 ODAC) leaned heavily on their dominant rushing attack, amassing 387 rushing yards as a team. Leading the charge was Jalen Redfearn, who carried the ball 38 times for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Bryce Buchanan and quarterback Steven Hugney also found the end zone on the ground, with Hugney adding a touchdown pass to Broden Domenico to cap off the scoring against the Tigers (5-4, 3-3)

RECAP

After a scoreless opening drive, Shenandoah found its rhythm on its second possession, feeding Redfearn on eight consecutive plays for 81 yards. Buchanan capped the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.

Hughey then orchestrated another scoring drive, completing two 15-yard passes to Broden Domenico and Braden Holt before keeping the ball himself for a 13-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 14-0.

Shenandoah's defense stood tall throughout the first half, highlighted by a sack from Ethan Brown and a missed field goal by Hampden-Sydney. Redfearn added his first touchdown of the day late in the second quarter, giving the Hornets a 21-0 advantage heading into the break.

Hampden-Sydney opened the second half with a promising drive, completing four straight passes for 53 yards. However, Shenandoah's Quante Redd intercepted the next pass to halt the Tigers' momentum. Although Hampden-Sydney managed to capitalize on a Shenandoah fumble for their only touchdown of the game, the Hornets quickly responded.

In the fourth quarter, Hugney connected with Domenico for a touchdown pass, extending the lead to 28-7. Shenandoah's defense then delivered a clutch stop on a fourth-and-goal attempt, with Tayton Smaldone making a key play.

The Hornets sealed the victory with an epic 95-yard, eight-minute drive, capped by Redfearn's second touchdown of the game. Hampden-Sydney's final possession was cut short as Nate Lednum came up with a big stop on fourth down, cementing the 35-7 win.
