Volleyball Ends Season with 3-0 Win on Senior Day

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team capped off its 2024 season with a 3-0 win at home against Goucher College in non-conference play on Saturday. Prior to the game, the Hornets (13-14) celebrated their two seniors, Cheyenne Price and Brooke Gast, for senior day.

SU held the Gophers (1-22) to 12 and 14 points in the first and second sets, respectively, before battling to a 25-20 win in the third for the victory.

RECAP

A 10-0 run pushed Shenandoah ahead 16-6 in the first and a 5-0 run later in the set put them up by 11. Amber Shifflett, Cheyenne Price, and Regan Minney rattled off three straight kills for a 24-11 lead. The first set ended on a kill from senior Brooke Gast with Vanessa Rodriguez gaining the assist.

Goucher held an 8-2 lead in the second before the Hornets battled back 11-1 run for a 13-9 advantage. The home team held all the momentum from there on out as they'd take the set 25-14.

The third was a completely different story from the first two with 10 ties and four leads exchanged between the two teams. With the competitors tied at 14, SU used three kills and a service ace from Kylie Danella to help them obtain a 19-14 lead. The season ended for the Hornets on a Rodriguez ace to take the third set.

The two seniors, Price and Gast, led the Hornets in kills. Their 24 combined kills were more than the Gophers had as a team.

Rodriguez and Danella led SU in assists with 16 and 14, respectively.
