Women's Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped in Tri-Match

St. Mary's City, Md. - In the team's first tri-match of the season, the Shenandoah University volleyball squad dropped its two games against Methodist University and St. Mary's College (Md.) with both games ending with a 3-1 decision on Saturday.

The Hornets (6-5) won the first set against the Monarchs but fell in the next three, while the Seahawks (4-5) took the opening two frames, while SU was able to force a fourth set before eventually falling 3-1.

METHODIST RECAP

An 8-1 run helped Shenandoah take a 9-2 advantage in the opening set as SU had four kills during the run including two from Regan Minney. Methodist rallied back to bring the set within one point but three kills and an MU error put the Hornets ahead, 15-10.

With Shenandoah ahead 19-14, Methodist gained the lead on a 9-3 run. The streak didn't affect Shenandoah as they took advantage of two errors from the Monarchs and a Hannah Hylton kill to claim the set, 25-23.

In the second set, SU held an 8-6 lead but Methodist used a 14-3 run to jump out in front, 20-11 before eventually evening up the match with a 25-21 set victory.

After holding a 9-8  lead in the third set, Shenandoah wouldn't hold the lead for the rest of the match despite forcing three ties in the fourth set. MU won both of the final sets 25-19.

Regan Minney and Hannah Hylton led the Hornets with 12 kills each while Kylie Danella assisted on 24 of the team's 44 kills. Libero Autumn Stroop led the team with 24 digs.

ST. MARY'S COLLEGE (Md.) RECAP

In the first set, Shenandoah took the early 6-1 lead on two kills from Regan Minney and four attack errors by the Seahawks. The Hornets held the lead until the Seahawks flipped the score and took a 14-13 advantage and then eventually winning the first set.

Shenandoah looked to even the score with a second set win and looked to have the win in hand as they held a 21-13 lead. However, the Seahawks held on and went on a 12-2 run to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Hornets avoided the sweep and forced the fourth set on a 25-20 victory in the third. SU had 13 kills throughout the set including multiple from Amber Shifflett, Regan Minney, Hannah Hylton, and Brooke Gast.

St. Mary's was able to not let Shenandoah force a pivotal fifth set as they won the fourth set, 25-20.

Kylie Danella crossed the 200 assists mark on the season in this match as she finished with 31 assists across the four sets.
Ava Pannullo led the Hornets with three blocks while Regan Minney and Brooke Gast backed her up with one each.
