Women's Soccer Falls to #5 Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. - On day one of the Cougars Classic, the Shenandoah University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to #5 Misericordia University on Saturday in non-conference play.

The Cougars (4-0) scored the game's only goal in the 31st minute and held the Hornets (2-2) to just three shots on goal in the game. Two of those shots came in the game's final 20 minutes as SU looked to equalize the game.

RECAP

Four minutes into the game, Misericordia put goalie Kasie Kilmer to work as the keeper made a stop in the center of the cage. Less than 10 minutes later, Chandler Gallant fired the first shot of the game for SU which was saved by the Cougars' keeper, keeping the game scoreless.

In the 22nd minute, Lauren Duffy had a shot that was deflected by the defense which led to SU's first corner of the contest. Misericordia stopped the Hornets' chance on the corner and flipped the possession to the other half of the pitch.

The Cougars earned a free kick in the 31st minute and the shot from the kick rang off the crossbar but a Cougar was right there to clean up the leftovers and sneak the ball into the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal.

In the second half, the Hornets had two good chances to tie the game, the first of which was a shot from outside the box from McKenna Newcome which was saved. The next SU chance came roughly nine minutes later as Gallant got her second shot of the day which was also saved.

Kasie Kilmer made six saves for SU in the game as four Hornet starters played the full 90 minutes.
