Hornets and Royals Tie, 2-2

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team tied Eastern Mennonite University, 2-2, on Wednesday night at home in an ODAC match.

The Royals (5-2-4, 0-1-2 ODAC) tied the game as the clock hit zero at the end of regulation, after the Hornets (4-3-3, 1-0-1) led for the entire second half, following two first half goals.

In the sixth minute, Jarbin Rodriguez served a cross-field pass to James Blalock, with the first-year forward racing into the box and striking for the game's opening score, giving SU the lead. Nine minutes later, the Royals tied the game, off a header on a double assist from a free kick.

First-year Paris Pappas, who subbed into the game in the 26th minute, hit the top right corner of the net on a long-range shot to push the Hornets out in front, 2-1, with Rodriguez picking up his second assist of the night.

The Hornets' lead was nearly extended in the 49th minute, as Hatim Elkhasouani had a shot knocked off the goal line, to keep the Royals' deficit at one. With three minutes left in the game, EMU was inches away from tying the game, but SU's defense came up big and cleared the ball at the goal line.

The Royals kept the ball in their offensive half of the field for the final moments of the game, and capitalized at the buzzer as their goalie launched a ball into the box, which was headed into the back of the net, tying the game at two.

Jake Ziervogel made four saves in the match for the Hornets. Rodriguez led the team with three shots, while Zach Robinson added two.

The Horents are at Randolph College this Saturday at 7 p.m. for an ODAC match.
