Field Hockey Wins ODAC Opener, 5-0

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The No.. 15 Shenandoah University field hockey team defeated Sweet Briar College 5-0 on Saturday morning on the road in an ODAC game.

The Hornets (8-2, 1-0 ODAC) scored three goals in the second quarter versus the Vixens (2-5, 0-1) and have outscored opponents 18-1 in their last three games.

RECAP

Shenandoah had nine shots on goal in the first quarter stopped by the Sweet Briar defense, keeping the game scoreless. Shenandoah finally scored in the second quarter as Claudia Lenahan found the back of the net with an assist from Kayleigh Vodvarka.

The next shot from the Hornets also found the back of the cage, putting them up 2-0, on Emily Swartzbaugh's second goal of the season. Three minutes later, after assisting on Swartzbaugh's goal, Lily Kyvelos scored to put SU up by three, heading into halftime.

Nearly seven minutes into the third, Lenahan earned another point as she assisted on an Ellie Quinn goal that gave the Hornets a four-goal cushion. Late in the contest, defender Camryn DeLeva capped the scoring with a goal off a feed from Quinn.

Shenandoah had 32 shots on goal and 51 shot attempts. 

Goalie Jordan Ivey made her first career start and made one save in the shutout.
