Women's Soccer's Season Concludes in ODAC Semifinals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The No. 3 Shenandoah University women's soccer team was defeated by No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan University, 2-1, in the semifinals of the 2025 ODAC Tournament on Wednesday on the road.

Two goals in quick succession by the Marlins (15-3-2), along with four second half saves, lifted them to victory over the Hornets (11-7-3).

IN BRIEF

The Marlins earned a free kick in the 10th minute, which led to a shot that beat the Hornets' defense and found the upper left corner for the go-ahead goal. Minutes later, a misplayed ball by the Hornets deflected off a Marlin attacker and ended up in the back of the net, putting the home team up by two.

Shenandoah was held without a shot until McKenna Newcome scored in the 36th minute, cutting SU's deficit in half. The goal marked the ninth consecutive game that Newcome had scored in.

In the second half, Shenandoah controlled possession, leading to shots on goal by Ellie Ajello, Newcome, Peyton Lubinsky, and Lauren Duffy. However, each of the four shots was saved by the Marlins, helping them advance to the championship game.

The season concludes with Newcome leading the team in points, goals, and assists. Duffy, Alexandra Sarrach, Kaitlyn Wahl, and Lubinsky each recorded at least 10 points this season.
