Field Hockey Defeated in ODAC Championship by Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team was defeated 5-1 in the ODAC Championship on Saturday at top-seeded University of Lynchburg.

SU (15-4) tied the game at one in the first, but LYN (16-4) went on to score twice in the second quarter, extending its lead. Shenandoah was held to one shot in the second half, with Lynchburg adding two more goals.

IN BRIEF

Lynchburg began the championship with a goal inside the first 45 seconds of the game, on the first shot of the afternoon. A couple of minutes later, Ellie Quinn earned the first shot for Shenandoah and scored, tying the game at one.

Shenandoah had five penalty corners in the first quarter following their goal and had four more shots on goal, but were stopped on each chance. This allowed Lynchburg to score twice in the second quarter, including a goal with one second left.

LYN scored two more times, once in the third quarter and another in the fourth, while maintaining possession. Shenandoah was only granted two corners in the second half and a single shot by Mallory Holup. 

Holup led the team with three shots, including two on net. Claudia Lenahan, Camryn DeLeva, Reagan Flory, and Quinn recorded the other shots for Shenandoah.

Cassidy Alexander made seven saves for SU.

Shenandoah awaits Sunday's selection show to see if they've earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
