Women's Volleyball Sweeps Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team won its second ODAC match in as many days with a 3-0 road victory at Hollins University on Saturday.

The Hornets (10-6, 5-3 ODAC) took the first two sets 25-20 before capping off the win with a dominant 25-14 win in the third set over Hollins (5-12, 1-6).

RECAP

Shenandoah found itself down 10-5 in the first but rebounded with a 9-0 run for a 14-10 lead. The run was powered by seven team kills, led by three from Ashlynn Spence. Spence led the team overall with 13. SU retained the lead for the rest of the set despite Hollins pulling within one in the latter stages.

The Hornets gave up the first point of the second but didn't let their deficit grow any further as they took a 4-1 lead. Up 9-6, Hannah Hylton sparked a 5-0 run to extend SU's lead with a kill and four service aces. The Hornets went up 14-6, which helped them extend out far enough for the 25-20 win.

Hollins took an early lead in the third, with a lead as large as four. The Hornets fought back to get the set tied, before erupting for a 9-0 run that put SU up 20-11. First-year Riley Link had five kills in the final frame to help SU clinch the match.

Susan Smith had 21 assists to lead the Hornets, while Amanda Schaffer closely followed with 18.

Myah Watson had four total blocks with two solos and two assists.
