Women's Volleyball Falls to CNU at Home

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team played the second leg of a back-to-back as Christopher Newport University traveled to Winchester for a 3-1 victory for the visitors on Friday.

The Hornets (10-8) won the first set, 25-23, but the Captains (14-6) fought back with 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 victories in the final three sets.

RECAP

Shenandoah led 7-2 in the first set thanks to three kills from Hannah Hylton, as she finished the evening with a team-high 14 kills. Kills from Ashlynn Spence and Riley Link helped keep the lead at 12-7. The Captians tied the set at 22 and 23, but consecutive kills from Hylton gave SU the opening set.

CNU used an 8-1 run in the middle of the second to claim a 15-6 lead. SU rallied back to tie the set, 22-22, with a kill from Spence. However, the visitors ended the set on a 3-0 run. CNU then used two separate 7-0 runs in the third set to take a 2-1 match lead.

The fourth set was the closest of the match, with nine ties and four lead changes. SU's last lead of the night was at 11-10 in the fourth after a kill from Amber Shifflett. Despite not reclaiming a lead, SU's deficit didn't grow larger than three in the fourth, and they were able to tie the frame at 17.
