Women's Volleyball Swept by (RV) Lynchburg

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team hosted (RV) University of Lynchburg on Friday night in ODAC play and lost 3-0 in the fourth of five straight home matches.

SU (10-10, 5-4 ODAC) were led by Hannah Hylton, who had 11 kills and 14 digs, both team highs in the loss to LYN (18-4, 7-2).

RECAP

Lynchburg won the first set 25-17, but it was Shenandoah that picked up the first point. The opening point led to a back-and-forth battle, which led to LYN leading 6-4. Shenandoah climbed back to get an 8-7 lead off a kill from Hannah Hylton and ended up leading 10-7 thanks to consecutive Lynchburg errors. However, with the set now tied 13-13, Lynchburg went on a 10-2 run, which put them in the driver's seat.

The visitors then opened the second on another 10-2 run, which helped them end up with a nine-point lead late in the set. Lynchburg took the second frame 25-19.

The third set featured 15 ties and seven lead changes, eventually requiring extra points by both teams, with Lynchburg closing out the match at 27-25. Of SU's 25 points in the third, 14 were recorded with kills.

Shenandoah's front line had seven kills tonight, with Danica Duncan, Ashlynn Spence, Amber Shifflett, and Myah Watson each having three total blocks.

With 11 digs on Friday, Samantha Shy reached 400 career digs.
