BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University football team picked up its first shutout win since 2022 with a 17-0 victory at Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon in ODAC action.

The Hornets (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, while the Eagles (2-5, 2-2) missed three field goals and went 0-for-3 in the red zone, helping SU to the conference victory.

RECAP

On the fifth play from scrimmage, Aidan McCloskey broke free up the middle of the field for a 34-yard rushing touchdown that put SU up 7-0 early in the game. Bridgewater went down and missed a 39-yard field goal attempt on the next possession.

On Bridgewater's second possession, they took the ball all the way down to SU's 3-yard line but were stuffed on a fourth-down conversion by Maximus Pit-Og to keep SU in the lead. A fumble by Bridgewater, plus another missed field goal, helped SU take a 7-0 lead into halftime.

The opening drive of the second half saw Bridgewater take the ball all the way down to SU's 9-yard line, setting up a 26-yard field goal attempt. However, the Eagles once again missed the field goal, keeping the zero in their score column.

In the fourth, following a three-and-out by Bridgewater, Shenandoah reached field goal range and converted a 22-yard Carson Gallant field goal for a 10-0 advantage.

The very next drive, Jaren Mitchell picked up his fifth interception of the season and returned the ball back to Bridgewater's 42-yard line. Four plays later, Kellen Lewis found the end zone on a 14-yard rush to put the game away with under three minutes to play.

Nick English sealed the win for the Hornets with an interception in Eagles' territory, allowing the Hornets to kneel out the rest of the game.

Jaren Mitchell led the Hornets defensively with 12 total tackles and an interception. The Shenandoah defense had seven tackles for loss, and Lesean Toulson picked up the one sack for the SU defense as well.

Offensively, Mekhi Brown went 11-for-19 for 84 passing yards. Aidan McCloskey had a team-high 69 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

Punter Connor Moyssiadis had seven punts for 282 yards, with three landing inside the 20, along with a 50-plus-yard punt.
