Men's Soccer Sinks Marlins to Advance to ODAC Semifinals

WINCHESTER, Va. - In a home ODAC Quarterfinal match, the Shenandoah University men's soccer team downed Batten University 2-1 on Saturday night, advancing to play at Bridgewater College on Wednesday.

The Hornets (9-3-6) were led by a three-point night by Jarbin Rodriguez, who scored the game-winning goal in the second half to beat the Marlins (4-6-8).

RECAP

In the eighth minute, Jarbin Rodriguez took a corner for SU. Rodriguez found Andrew Menendez on the back side of the box, who headed it over to Hatim Elkhasouani for the first goal. Seconds later, Batten responded to tie the game 1-1.

Six minutes into the second half, Luke Shearer broke down the side of the field and fed the ball over to Rodriguez, who paused, then took a shot into the back of the net for the 2-1 lead.

In the final two minutes of the game, first-year goalkeeper Aidan King-Miller made two fantastic stops to keep the lead for Shenandoah. The Hornets booted the ball down the field for the final 10 seconds of the game to secure the win.

King-Miller finished the night with seven saves in net.

The playoff win marked the second for head coach Brandon Kates, with the first one coming with a 2023 playoff win against Eastern Mennonite University.
