BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Cross Country teams kicked off their season at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge hosted by Bridgewater College on Tuesday evening. The women captured first place above familiar foes Bridgewater, EMU, and Mary Baldwin, while the Men claimed third place after a tiebreaker with Bridgewater, both of whom scored 57 team points.
Women's 4k Race
The SU Women put on a great showing for their first race of the season.
Kailey Lamont paced the team, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 16:50.8. Her All-ODAC counterpart, Madison Chorney, crossed the finish line side by side with her with a time of 16:51.1.
Emily Bultema would finish the course a minute later at 17:53.4, with first-year
Ashley Gambill right behind Bultema at 17:56.3.
Arianna Hensley rounded out the scoring for the Hornets, finishing 9th overall with a time of 18:19.1.

Men's 6k Race
The SU Men completed the race in a tie with Bridgewater at 57 points, which was broken by the Eagles taking the tiebreaker and claiming 2nd place over the Hornets. Zachary Hamacher led the men, claiming 8th place overall with a time of 21:09.1. Right behind Hamacher was
Kyle Corpin crossing at the 21:15.3 mark.
Caleb Beiswenger and
Isaac Clarke would be the next pair of Hornets to cross together, finishing at 21:54.6 and 22:02.5, respectively.
Chase Busold rounded out the point-scoring for Shenandoah, crossing at 22:16.1.

The Hornets head up to Shippensburg for the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge on Friday, with the first race starting at 8pm.
