Cross Country Hosts SU Twilight Open

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's and men's cross country programs hosted their first of three home meets this season with the SU Twilight Open on Friday evening at Kernstown Battlefield.

WOMEN'S RECAP

The women started the evening off with a 5,000m race, where the Hornets placed fifth with 146 team points.

The Hornets ran in a pack up until the final 1,000m of the event, where Maddy Chorney broke ahead of the group and finished as the top performer for SU at 24:18.9 for a 34th-place showing.

Emily Bultema wrapped up in 38th with a time of 24:24.0, closely followed by Grace Semow and Katelyn Palmer, who finished with times of 24:24.2 and 24:24.8, respectively. The trio was only separated by a total of eight-tenths of a second.

Ashley Gambill was the fifth SU runner to complete the course, crossing the finish line at 24:26.2. Fellow first-year Arianna Hensley finished three seconds later at 24:29.7. Shenandoah's race was closed out by Mary Waite and Arial Crawford finishing 24:45.2 and 24:54.1, respectively.

SU women's official scoring order was 32-33-34-35-36-(37)-(38).

MEN'S RECAP

In the finale of the night, the men ran in a 6k and had the same game plan as the women, running as a group until the final 1,000m stretch.

SU's men placed 10th with 280 team points and a scoring order of 54-55-56-57-58-(59)-(60).

Brayden Shotwell was the first Hornet to come down the final hill, finishing at 24:12.1. Kyle Corpin closely followed at 24:13.2.

With the first two Hornets placing 65th and 66th, the rest of the team wasn't far behind. The next seven SU runners finished one behind the other, taking up spots 68 through 74. Of the group, it was Zack Hamacher crossing first at 24:21.5, and he was followed by Caleb Beiswenger (24:22.7), Ethan Beaugez (24:28.3), Chase Busold (24:28.8), Brenden Maloy (24:31.8), Sebastian Berrios (24:35.1), and Will Ashley (24:36.0).

Isaac Clarke placed 76th at 24:42.8, and Shane Lyons finished at 24:35.0 for 79th, as the Hornets rounded out their night.
