Women's Soccer Defeated by Batten at Home

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team was defeated 2-1 at home on Saturday evening by Batten University in an ODAC match.

The Marlins (5-0-2, 1-0-0 ODAC) scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute to push past the Hornets (6-3, 0-2).

Alicia Bauer fired off an early shot, which was saved in the 4th minute, with McKenna Newcome firing one just wide of the net minutes later. Batten jumped out front first after poking in a loose ball in the 14th minute. 

Midway through the first, Molly Donaldson made three saves, including two rapid saves on back-to-back shots at the 26:19 mark. The goalkeeper ended the first half with five saves.

Just after being subbed on, Kirklyn Wilson intercepted a Marlins pass and fired into a wide-open net to tie the contest in the 36th minute. The teams went into halftime tied at one.

With 21 minutes left in the game, the Marlins used a couple of quick passes to break through the Hornets' backline and scored the go-ahead goal for a 2-1 lead. 

Following the Batten goal, Shenandoah had four shots on target, with each one stopped by the Marlins' goalie.

Shenandoah heads to Sweet Briar College on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. ODAC game.
