FAYETTVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team traveled to Methodist University on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference contest and walked away with a 2-2 tie.
The Hornets (0-1-1) trailed for most of the game, but got the equalizing goal in the 69th minute from
Nick Mattiace to tie the Monarchs (1-0-1).
Aidan King-Miller earned a pair of saves in the game, helping hold the tie.

Moments into the game, Methodist went low and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Still in the first 10 minutes of the game,
Jarbin Rodriguez received an assist from
Yoha Mulugeta to tie the game at one in the ninth minute.
Offense remained hot for both sides, as the Monarchs retook the lead in the 16th minute on a second-chance shot following a team save by the Hornets.
Grant Otto,
Luke Shearer, and
Aidan Browne had first-half chances to even the match up for Shenandoah, but Methodist remained with the 2-1 advantage at the break.
Midway through the second half, the Hornets got the answer they were looking for, as
Nick Mattiace scored in the 69th minute, with Shearer providing the helper on the goal.Â
Shearer and Otto had the last two shots for SU, both coming in the 89th minute. Shearer's shot was an on target shot but saved by the Monarch's goalie.Â

Shenandoah is on the road for the second straight game, this Wednesday at Stevenson University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
