Local standout Matthew Copley joined the baseball staff in August, 2022.
Copley, a 2017 Fairmont (W. Va.) State grad, comes to Shenandoah after four seasons of coaching high school baseball and two summers in collegiate baseball. From 2019 through 2021, he was at Spring Mills High School before moving to his alma mater, James Wood High School, for the 2022 season. In the Valley League, he coached with the Purcellville Cannons in 2021 and 2022.
In '22, Copley helped the Colonels to their first-ever VHSL State Championship game appearance.
As a collegiate player, Copley was part of a WVIAC championship team at Shepherd University in 2012 before transferring to Fairmont State for the final two years. He also starred for the Front Royal Cardinals and Purcellville Cannons in the summers of 2015 and 2016 and earned All-Valley League honors in 2016.
With the Hornets, he is involved in all aspects of the program including practice and game management, skill development, and recruiting.
