Former Roanoke College standout Whitney Hopson joined the Shenandoah University women's basketball staff in October, 2022.
Hopson, a two-time All-ODAC selection, joins Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft as a part-time assistant coach.
The Mechanicsville native joins the SU staff after a standout career in which she was a four-year starter for the Maroons and served as team captain for her final two years.
In 2020-21, Hopson was named as the league's Defensive Player of the Year and All-ODAC. This comes on the heels of her earning third team All-ODAC accolades in 2019.
Hopson added to her knowledge base as an undergrad by serving on the RC stat crew as well as working in gameday operations for both the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs and with Virginia Beach City Football Club,
In 2021-22, she also interned with the Roanoke athletic department with concentrations in facilities, NCAA compliance, and game operations.
Hopson is involved in all aspects of the program including practice and game management, player development, academic monitoring, and recruiting.
