FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington College earned a split of its season series with Shenandoah by taking a 58-56 non-conference victory Thursday afternoon at Goolrick Gymnasium.

The Eagles (5-3) avenge a 64-63 Shenandoah victory on November 22 with the win. SU (4-2) falls for the first time since the season opener against Emory & Henry.

After shooting at least 50 percent from the field in the last two outings, Shenandoah was undone by a cold 18 for 50 (36.0 percent) performance from the field. On the positive side, a 45-26 advantage on the boards kept the Hornets in it throughout.

SU had a chance to tie in the waning moments, but sophomore James Brodie's (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) tip-in at the buzzer was ruled too late. This gave MWC its first win over Shenandoah in the last four meetings.

Junior Chris Rhone (Washington, DC/Northwestern) once again led the Hornets in scoring with a game high 18 while senior Chad Brashears (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) added 12.
