Chowan Feasts on Women

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah continued to prove that its women's basketball team cannot win when shooting below 40-percent as the Hornets 34-percent effort from the field could not hold up against USA South leader Chowan Monday afternoon in Shingleton Gymnasium, and the Lady Braves coasted to a 68-47 victory.

Speed and pressure from the Lady Braves (6-3 overall, 4-0 USA South) proved to be a deadly combination for the Hornets (3-9, 1-3) who managed only 17 points in the first half.

It seemed that each time an SU player brought the ball up the court; she was swarmed by a host of flying Chowan players. Despite the attacking opposition, Shenandoah was down by only six at the midpoint but fatigue would quickly take its toll.

The Lady Braves received outstanding individual efforts from guard Christina Addison (22 points) and the multifaceted C.C. Vaughn (who registered the game's lone double-double with 1 points and 12 boards.

Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W.Va./East Hardy) came off the bench and ignited the Hornets' offense late in the game, but her team high 15 points could not revive the SU attack.

SU now gets to rest until Saturday afternoon when the Hornets travel to Averett for the 2:00 PM opener of a double-header with the Cougars.
