GREENSBORO, N.C. – In the four plus seasons of Shenandoah University football, there is only one conference venue that the Hornets have played at more than once and not come away with a victory.

That stat will continue for at least another two years as Greensboro College turned in a 24-19 USA South Conference upset victory Saturday afternoon.

Down 19-10, Greensboro (2-4 overall, 1-2 USA South) stormed back with two fourth quarter touchdowns to seize the unlikely victory.

The Pride had led 10-7 at the break before Shenandoah (4-2 overall, 3-1 USA South) appeared to take control with a pair of third-quarter scores. Sophomore tight end Maurice Coleman (Woodbridge, Va./CD Hylton) put SU up 13-10 when he hauled in his second TD catch of the game from quarterback Jon Hoffman (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) at the 5:55 mark of the third and then junior Anthony Frates (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) bowled over from the 3 with 1:25 left to make it 19-10.

Despite having to go into a stiff breeze, quarterback Justin Roberson threw a pair of touchdown passes to Kenyatta Campbell to give GC its fourth victory in five meetings against the Hornets. The Pride got what proved to be the winning score when Campbell hauled in a 27-yarder on 3rd down and 10. The third down conversion was one of seven that GC had on the day; Greensboro was 7 of 16 on third down conversions after SU had held opponents on 46 of 56 third-down attempts prior to Saturday's contest.

Shenandoah opened the scoring with a 12 play, 68 yard drive that consumed 6:00; the drive culminated with a eight-yard pass from Hoffman to Coleman on 2nd and goal.

Greensboro was held to a three and out on its first possession, but came back to drive 57 yards on its second chance to tie the game at 7-7 with just under 2:00 in the first. GC converted three third-downs on the drive before Corey Eadie outjumped SU safety Kenny Weaver (Ruckersville, Va./William Monroe) for the four-yard score.

GC made it 10-7 at the break by holding SU on a 4th and 4 from the Pride 9 and then driving to the Hornets 17 before settling for a 20-yard Chris Palme field goal.

Quentin Caldwell led all rushers with 114 yards on 17 attempts while Frates had 92 on 22 carries for SU. Roberson was 14 for 27 for 161 and three scores through the air for the hosts; Corey Eadie had 10 of those catches for 94 yards.

Shenandoah travels out of conference next week for an away game, its last one of the year, at Chowan College. Kickoff is set for 1:00.
