WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU volleyball team staged a brief comeback, but it was not enough as NC Wesleyan outlasted the homestanding Hornets 3-1 in USA South Conference volleyball Friday evening.
NC Wesleyan (18-10 overall, 5-7 USA South) took the four-game decision 30-25, 30-27, 28-30, 31-29, but had to work all night to get the win. Shenandoah (16-16, 5-8) held a 29-28 lead in game four with the serve before the Bishops reeled off the final three points of the contest.
Senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had a match high 16 kills for SU, while freshman Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) added 14, Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) 13 and Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) 11. Williams also led the defense with 30 digs.
Sarah Edwards led NC Wesleyan with 15 kills; Melissa Leonard had 23 digs and Caitlin George 41 assists.
