WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University scored the first 11 points of the game Saturday afternoon to key a 69-56 non-conference victory over visiting Mary Washington.

Shenandoah (6-2) bolted out to a 11-0 lead as senior Chris Rhone (Washington, D.C./Northwestern) scored six of his team high 21 points in the first 3:33 of the contest.

Mary Washington (5-3) finally got on the board on a pair of Justin Baker free throws at the 15:53 mark, but the hole the Eagles dug for themselves proved too deep.

Baker's two points keyed a 12-2 UMW run that got the visitors to within one at 13-12 with 12:27 left, but this would be as close as they would get.

SU held a 33-29 lead at the half, largely base on the strength of a season best 14 of 23 (60.9 percent) shooting from the field.

The Hornets opened the second half with a 7-0 run and held at least a six-point advantage for all but 29 seconds the rest of the way.

Shenandoah shot 26 for 47 (55.3 percent) for the game and held 39-29 advantage on the boards. Mary Washington, who got a game high 22 points from Baker and 21 from Mike Lee, shot 22 for 64 (34.4 percent) for the contest.

In addition to Rhone's 21, Kenny Purnell (Baltimore, Md./Lake Clifton) had 17 and Onyie Onunaku (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson) turned in his fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and 13 rebounds. He also added five blocks and a career high six steals.
