WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University struggled through another rough hitting night Wednesday in a 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-28) USA South Conference loss to Ferrum College.
SU (4-10, 0-4 USA South) had 18 errors against 17 kills in 105 attempts (-.010) against the Lady Panthers (6-8, 1-3).
After jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead in game one, the Hornets saw the hitting woes surface as Ferrum scored four straight points to take 5-4 advantage.
After the two teams traded points all the way to the 10-point mark, FC went on a 9-1 run to seize control of the opening game. Shenandoah would get no closer than five points the rest of the way before eventually falling by the eight point margin.
Game two was much of the same - the Lady Panthers never trailed after Caprice Law gave the visitors a broke a 4-4 tie with a run of four straight points.
The hosts appeared to right the ship in what proved to be the deciding third game by going on a 10-5 run in the middle of the game to lead 26-17 following a Law attack error.
Unfortunately, Ferrum roared back with 13 of the game's final 15 points - Kenzie Franklin scored seven of these points from the service line and Mindy Altice chipped in three kills.
Sophomore
Jennifer Thompson had a team high six kills while
Michelle Chandler added five. Chandler also had the best attacking night for SU - she it .179 with five kills and zero errors in 28 attempts.
Thompson led on defense with 11 digs.
Altice combined a game high 23 kills to go along with a 13 digs. Jessica Walker and Franklin matched her defensive output.
