BALTIMORE, Md. – Shenandoah University earned its third victory of the young season Thursday night with a 59-53 non-league women's basketball victory at the College of Notre Dame (Md.).
SU (3-1) overcame a double-digit second half deficit to earn the third victory of the Michelle Guyant-Holloway era while also evening the all-time series at eight games apiece between the two schools.
With the Gators (2-1) holding a 35-23 lead just over two minutes into the second half, Shenandoah preceded to reel off 16 of the game's next 21 points to cut the deficit to one, 40-39, by the 12:11 mark.
Freshman
Alexis Hargbol, who led all SU scorers with 20 points, had six during this run with
Alicia Sanders adding four.
CND sandwiched five free throws around two more Sanders field goals, one a a three-pointer, before the Hornets finally seized control with a 5-0 run. The Gators tied the game on two more occasions in the remaining 5:52, the last with 2:33 left, before Shenandoah scored the final six points of the contest.
Four of these final points came from the line, including three by Hargbol. The freshman also led all players with a career-high 14 rebounds.
