WINCHESTER, Va. - Christopher Newport University sent host Shenandoah University down to a 3-0 volleyball defeated in the final game of the first round of league play for both teams Tuesday night.
The Lady Captains (10-7, 6-1 USA South) game out with a 30-19 win in game one, rallied for a 35-33 victory in the second game and then clinched it with a 30-22 triumph over the Hornets (6-7, 2-5).
Shenandoah led the second contest 20-12 and 27-24 only to see CNU score rally for the victory. After the Lady Captains tied it at 27-27, the two teams remained within one point of one another until the visitors finally ended it when the Hornets had a bad set off of a Katie Parmely serve.
Christopher Newport scored the first three points of the decisive contest and did not trail the game. Leading 24-22 and on defense after Liz Bush had an attack error, CNU got a Kenzie Lockie kill to win back the serve and then reeled of the final five points of the contest.
Nicole Sperlazza scored all five points from the service line - she had two service aces during this run.
Bush led all players with 11 kills whileÂ
Michelle Chandler had eight kills and 13 assists for the hosts.
