WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Wilson College made a first half goal stand up Friday afternoon in a 1-0 non-league field hockey victory over host Shenandoah University.
Amy Newmaster scored in the 10th minute for the Phoenix (1-0) as they downed the Hornets for the second time in the past three years. Shenandoah (0-1) managed five shots to Wilson's three in the first half, but WC keeper Nikol Grafnetterova made two saves to preserve her team's lead.
The second half turned into a defensive battle, with Wilson taking the only two shots. SU freshmanÂ
Chelsea Smith stopped both of them and finished the afternoon with three saves.
