WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Albright College used a late first-half touchdown to pull away from host Shenandoah 30-7 in a non-league football game at Shentel Stadium Saturday night.

Leading 10-7 and forced to try a 39-yard field goal late in the second quarter, Albright (2-1) benefited from an unsportsmanlike penalty on the host Hornets to gain a first down in the SU red zone.

Shenandoah (0-3) was penalized on the missed FG for taking a running start in attempting to block the John Whelan try.

The Lions were awarded a first down on the SU 12, and after two incomplete passes, AC quarterback Tanner Kelly hit Nate Romig with six seconds to play to give the visitors a 16-7 advantage at the break.

Trailing 10-0, Shenandoah had gotten itself back into the game when senior defensive tackle Dallas Pryor picked off a Kelly screen pass attempt at the Albright 2 and walked in untouched for his first career TD.

SU junior Jeremy Maley electrified the homecoming night crowd by returning the second half kick 50-yards to the Lions 35, but the Hornets were able to gain just two yards on the ensuing possession.

Three possessions later, Albright clinched the contest with by driving 20-yards in four plays to make it 23-7 with 6:33 to play in the third. AC had taken possession after Hornets quarterback Richard Glick fumbled after being sacked by Mike Ciccimaro.

Albright gained 383 yards in total offense, including 201 through the air and 121 rushing by Romig. Kelly was 20 for 30 for those 201 yards and two TD passing - he hit Stephen Asay nine times for 110 yards and Romig four times for 43 yards.

Paul Diggs had 111 of the Hornets 210 yards in total offense on 21 rushes.

Shenandoah hosts Ferrum next Saturday night in the Hornets USA South Conference opener.
