READING, Pa. – Host Albright College used a stellar defensive performance combined with a two solid second half drives to key a 17-7 non-league football victory over Shenandoah Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.
The Lions (2-1) broke open a 3-0 halftime contest with a six-play, 57-yard drive on their initial possession after the break. Josan Holmes, who gained 45 yards rushing on just two carries in the first half, finished off the drive with a 3-yard TD run.
Midway through the fourth, the hosts put the contest on ice when quarterback Tanner Kelly hit Nate Romig with a 13-yard strike at the 9:09 mark.
Although Albright had the better of Shenandoah (1-2) statistically to this point, the game was not clinched until Kelly found Romig on the crossing pattern.

Trailing 17-0, Shenandoah got on the board in the final minute of the contest on a 4-yard run by sophomore BJ Smoot. Smoot's run finished off a 13-play, 97-yard drive that was highlighted by a 39-yard pass play from quarterback Vern Lunsford to receiver EJ Brown. The hookup was one of two that Lunsford and Brown had of at least 39 yards and also was Lunsford's school record-breaking 16th of the contest.
Lunsford finished the day 18 for 28 for 178 yards while Brown had 95 yards receiving on just four catches.
The Lions outgained Shenandoah 415-297, including 215 to 119 on the ground. Kelly was 14 of 23 for 170 yards with one TD and one interception.
