Volleyball Takes Two of Three

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Shenandoah University continued its out-of-conference volleyball play Saturday afternoon by taking two of three matches at the Trinity University quad.

Shenandoah (12-11) opened the day with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-12, 24-26, 25-19, 12-15) loss to PSU-Harrisburg before sweeping both the host Tigers and Hood College.

SU won the Trinity match at 4,3 and 6 before taking out Hood 13, 18 and 18.

Sophomore Rachel Maki had a combined 34 kills in the three matches, including 17 in the Hood contest. Freshman Megan Gillispie backed her up with a combined 25 kills. Thirteen of those came against PSU-H.

Freshman Kelcy Brown fueled the offense with 42 assists in the opening match, 23 in the middle and 38 in the finale against Hood. She also had six service aces versus PSU-Harrisburg.

Defensively, Amber DeHaven had a career day with a combined 61 digs. Over half of this total (34) came in the opening match. Mary Harshman complemented that total with 41 of her own. Each woman had 17 against Hood.

The Hornets return to conference action on Wednesday with a 7:00 home match against Ferrum.
