WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Elizabethtown College sent Shenandoah
University down to its fourth straight field hockey defeat with a
6-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over the Hornets Wednesday afternoon
on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
The Blue Jays (10-5, 4-1 CC) got all of the offense they would
need just 52 seconds in on a Katy Boone goal off of Liz DeMatteis'
assist.
DeMatteis scored herself at 14:33 and E-town added 19th, 31st
and 35th minutes to take a commanding 5-0 lead by halftime.
Melanie Hartman closed the book on the day's scoring with her
unassisted goal in the final minute.
Shenandoah (7-7, 1-4) had its best chance to score midway
through the second half when Paola
Aguilar missed wide following a rebound of a Katie
Johnson shot.
Elizabethtown outshot the Hornets 21-2 and held a 17-1 advantage
in penalty corners.
Danielle
Lawson had eight saves in the losing effort.
SU travels to Bridgewater tomorrow for a non-league game and
to Widener on Saturday for another MAC contest.
