Volleyball Swept at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University completed its volleyball regular season Saturday afternoon with USA South losses to Meredith and Greensboro colleges.

After Greensboro (8-27, 6-11 USA South) opened with a 3-0 win, Meredith outlasted the Hornets 3-2.

The two losses means that SU (14-17, 3-15) finishes ninth in the 10-team league and will play in a USA South Conference Tournament play-in game on Tuesday.

As the ninth-seed, Shenandoah will take on eighth-seeded Meredith at No. 1 Christopher Newport on Tuesday at 5:00. The winner of that match earns the right to face the Captains in the quarterfinal round.

Senior Jessi Johnson paced the Hornets with nine kills in the 19,13,23 loss to the Pride. Emily Jones had seven of the team's 24 digs.

After falling behind the Avenging Angels in the nightcap 2-0 by dropping sets one and two at 19 and 9, respectively, Shenandoah roared back to win the third and fourth both at 19.

The two teams then staged an epic fifth set with MC squeaking out a 20-18 victory.

Sophomore Rachel Maki had 18 kills with Mary Harshman adding 15 and Chevon Parker 14.

SU had 85 digs in the marathon match with Amber DeHaven contributing a match-high 22.
