GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University completed its
volleyball regular season Saturday afternoon with USA South losses
to Meredith and Greensboro colleges.
After Greensboro (8-27, 6-11 USA South) opened with a 3-0 win,
Meredith outlasted the Hornets 3-2.
The two losses means that SU (14-17, 3-15) finishes ninth in the
10-team league and will play in a USA South Conference Tournament
play-in game on Tuesday.
As the ninth-seed, Shenandoah will take on
eighth-seeded Meredith at No. 1 Christopher Newport on Tuesday
at 5:00. The winner of that match earns the right to face the
Captains in the quarterfinal round.
Senior Jessi
Johnson paced the Hornets with nine kills in the 19,13,23 loss
to the Pride. Emily Jones had seven
of the team's 24 digs.
After falling behind the Avenging Angels in the nightcap 2-0 by
dropping sets one and two at 19 and 9, respectively, Shenandoah
roared back to win the third and fourth both at 19.
The two teams then staged an epic fifth set with MC squeaking
out a 20-18 victory.
Sophomore Rachel Maki had 18
kills with Mary
Harshman adding 15 and Chevon Parker 14.
SU had 85 digs in the marathon match with Amber DeHaven
contributing a match-high 22.
