WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its second USA
South Conference volleyball victory of the season with a 3-1 win
over Mary Baldwin Wednesday evening.
SU (10-9, 2-9 USA South) jumped out with a 25-13 win in the
first set and then put itself in position to clinch by winning
27-25 in the second.
After Mary Baldwin (3-18, 1-10) got on the board with a 25-22
victory in the third set, the Hornets clinched with a 25-23 triumph
in the fourth.
Senior Jessi Johnson paced
the SU offense with 13 kills while sophomore Rachel Maki added 10.
Shenandoah hit .131 for the match.
Defensively, the hosts were solid with 88 digs; freshman Emily Jones led
a group of five women in double-figures with 23.
Melanie Updike had 14 kills in the losing effort for the
Fighting Squirrels, who were held to an .029 hitting percentage.
SU steps out of conference this Saturday for a quad match at
Trinity. The Hornets face Hood and PSU-Harrisburg in addition to
the host Tigers.
