WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped its four-game
men's basketball losing streak Monday evening with an 84-67
non-league victory over Stevenson.
The Hornets (2-7) won for the second time this season by
dominating the boards against Stevenson (1-8).
SU held a 46-31 rebounding advantage, including 31-10 on the
Mustangs offensive end. Shenandoah also scored 26 second-chance
points and had over half of its points (44) from inside the
paint.
Leading 35-33 at the break, the Hornets seized total control
with a 15-0 run from the 18:10 to 14:45 marks of the second.
From this point on, Shenandoah led by at least 14 points and
pushed its advantage out to 20 points with just under 12 minutes to
play.
For the first time all season, all 15 players in uniform saw
action in the contest and once again junior Kevin Kline led
the club in scoring. Kline, who was named as the USA South
Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, had a game-high
18 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the floor.
In his last two games, Kline is shooting 78 percent from the
floor.
Brandon
Bryan added 13 points with a season-high three 3-pointers
and senior Chris
Schrader helped the victors to that 15-rebound advantage
with 18 boards. Schrader missed his career-high in rebounds by two,
set last season at Methodist.
Patrick Lewis had 16 poinjts and Irvin Jones 12 for the
Mustangs. Jones helped the visitors to a four-point first half lead
four balls from behind the arc.
Shenandoah is back in action Wednesday evening at 7 against
Marymount. This is the team's final game before the Christmas
break.
