WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball
team completed a season sweep over Marymount University Wednesday
evening with a 74-62 overtime win over the Saints.
SU (3-7) was dominant in the extra session over the Saints (4-5)
in securing the victory.
After Marymount sent the contest into overtime when Sam Sentz
hit a jumper with 16 seconds remaining, the Hornets took total
control at the start of the OT.
Shenandoah scored the first 14 points of overtime and 16 of 20
in the five-minute period to earn its second straight victory on
the young season in addition to finishing off the season sweep.
SU had defeated MU 76-72 in Arlington on the Tuesday before
Thanksgiving for its initial victory of the 2009-10 season.
Junior Kevin
Kline led the Hornets to victory with a career-high 30
points on 14 of 20 shooting from the field. Kline had 14 points in
the first half, 11 in the second and five in the extra session to
be the team's leading scorer for the sixth time in 10 games this
year.
Kline has also set a new career-high in points in two of his
last three games.
Kline's classmate, Brandon Bryan, gave
the victors a lead it would not relinquish with his jumper 13
seconds into OT. Four free throws sandwiched three field
goals before Kline finished this 14-0 run to start the
overtime with a layup at the 1:21 mark.
Marymount scored the game's next four points on two field goals,
but would get no closer.
In addition to Kline's 30, junior Mitch
Dudley added 11.
Sentz had 22 and Tarek Amoury 21 for MU.
Shenandoah is off until December 29 when it hosts Trine (Ind.).
