WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University fell victim
to a second half men's soccer rally for the second straight time
Friday night as Frostburg State downed the Hornets 3-2 in
non-league action.
After SU found itself less than one minute away from victory,
FSU (4-1) scored with 29 seconds remaining to tie it and then got
the golden-goal in the first sudden-victory overtime session.
Bobcats freshman Brian Davis figured in both goals - on the
equalizer, he threaded a pass to Ricky Marchant on the doorstep
before netting the game-winner in extra time.
Marchant one-timed his shot past SU (0-4-1) keeper Arman
Bozorgmanesh to send the contest into overtime.
Just 2:14 into sudden victory OT, Davis found himself alone just
outside of the 18-yard box and struck a rocket into the top left
corner that Bozorgmanesh had no chance to stop.
Senior Adam
Aldinger gave the hosts the early lead with his unassisted goal
in the 27th minute. Aldinger tallied the opening goal of
the contest as he took the ball off of a defender's foot and then
tucked his shot past FSU keeper Steven Cavallo from 15 yards out.
After Frostburg tied it on a Mike Pistorio to Michael Bistany
goal in the 67th minute, Aldinger set up Liberatus
Mwagombe for what looked like it would be the game-winner with
just over five minutes to play.
Aldinger threaded his pass into the middle of the box, where
Mwagombe ran onto it and found himself all alone with the
on-rushing keeper. Mwagombe calmly dribbled around Cavallo and then
tapped the ball into the open net for the go-ahead goal.
Unfortunately for the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium crowd,
Mwagombe's goal only set up the dramatic Bobcats comeback.
Shenandoah hosts Hood College Monday night at 7.
