WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team
shook off the effects of a quick turnaround and the absence of its
starting goalkeeper to battle Washington & Jefferson to a 1-1
tie Saturday afternoon.
Playing without starting keeper Kat Terza because of
a red card issued on Friday night at Westminster (Pa.), the Hornets
(1-3-1) got 16 saves from backup keeper Brooke
Strickler to come out with a tie against the Presidents
(0-3-1).
W&J outshot SU 26-12, including 6-2 in overtime, but
Stricker stopped everything in front of her save one shot.
Elizabeth Bendick had that goal for the hosts in the 19th minute
before freshman Nicole
Gilbertson answered for the Hornets four minutes later.
Following this goal, the two teams played nearly 90 minutes of
scoreless soccer to end in a tie.
The SU women are back at home on Wednesday night against DII
opponent Shepherd University.
