BALTIMORE, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball
team ran its season opening winning streak to six matches Saturday
with 3-0 and 3-1 victories over Trinity (D.C.) and the College of
Notre Dame (Md.).
Much as in the Hornets (6-0) first matchup of the 2009 season
against Trinity, SU was dominant. It took Shenandoah just 48
minutes to dispatch TU, 25-6, 25-13, 25-4. All 14 women in uniform
saw action with sophomore Rachel Maki's six
digs leading the way offensively.
In the September 1 opener against Trinity, SU had a
school-record 44 service aces. The number dropped to 23 Saturday
afternoon with Kelcy
Brown posting a game-high seven. Eight different women had
at least one service ace.
Brown, with 16 assists, was the only woman to register
double-digits in any category.
The squad then concluded the day with an 18-25, 26-24, 25-11,
25-11 victory over host Notre Dame.
Freshmen Samantha
