SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team
combined a strong defensive effort along with a timely penalty kick
to defeat Roanoke College 1-0 in non-league women's soccer action
Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Kat
Terza made 11 saves and freshman Amber
Womack converted the PK in the 86th minute to push the
Hornets (2-4-1) past host RC (5-2).
Womack wasted little time in ripping her shot past backup
Maroons keeper Kelli Markham; the shot went to Markham's right and
just under the crossbar.
Even though Roanoke outshot SU 21-6 (11-2 on goal), Shenandoah
had one strong chance in each half. After having a breakaway
thwarted in the first, sophomore Jessi Dennis hit
the crossbar 15 minutes before Womack was awarded the penalty.
The Maroons also took all 13 of the game's corners.
The Hornets travel to Randolph-Macon for a Wednesday contest.
