WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University ran its women's soccer
winning streak to three matches Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 USA
South Conference victory over Methodist.
Shenandoah (4-4-1, 1-0 USA South) earned its first win over
Methodist (4-5, 0-1) since the 2001 season with one goal in each
half.
Freshman Kirsten
Olson put the Hornets up to stay in the 39th minute when
she took a cross from classmate Amber Womack and
re-directed her shot over MU keeper Kasey Nichols.
Olson's shot from 10 yards out found the upper right-hand corner
of the net.
Exactly 28 minutes after Olson's tally, freshman Jess Natkin gave
the Hornets an all-important insurance goal by knocking home a
rebound of a long service.
Nichols came off of her line to play a ball served from just
inside the midfield line, and after she bobbled the bouncing ball,
Natkin ran onto it and easily dribbled around Nichols. With all of
her defenders now behind her, Natkin tucked the ball into the
wide-open net to give the hosts a commanding lead.
SU keeper Kat
Terza made eight saves to record her second shutout in the
last three games.
Methodist outshot its hosts, 10-9, but Shenandoah had five of
the game's nine corners.
Nichols had six saves.
The Hornets continue this homestand with a noon contest Sunday
against Greensboro.
