WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Shenandoah University opened up its 2009
volleyball season with a dominating 3-0 sweep over Trinity (D.C.)
The Hornets (1-0) needed just 38 minutes to dispatch the Tigers
(0-1) 25-1, 25-2, 25-5 in the non-league match.
Shenandoah did not need to go more than three servers deep in
any of the three sets as the squad combined for a school record 44
service aces.
Freshman Kelcy Brown had 13 of
those, all in the first set, while junior Brittany
Harryman had a total of 15 in the second and third sets.
Overall, the Hornets hit .550 for the match with six
players recording a perfect night.
Sophomore Rachel Maki had
a match-high four kills with Megan
Gillespie and Chevon
Parker adding three apiece.
Brown also had four assists.
The Hornets are back in action over the weekend against Penn
State - Abington and Penn State - Brandywine.
