ABINGTON, Pa. - Shenandoah University continued its winning ways
to start the 2009 volleyball season by sweeping a pair of Penn
State branch campuses Saturday afternoon in non-league matches.
The Hornets (3-0) opened the day with a 25-5, 25-7, 25-4 victory
over PSU-Abington before taking out PSU-Brandywine 25-12, 25-13,
25-17.
Freshman Megan Gillespie
led SU in that opening match with five kills while senior Chevon Parker added
three and Rachel
Maki two.
As with the team's season opening win over Trinity, Shenandoah
was dominating from the service line. Maki had 10 service aces to
push her into double digits for the second time in as many outings.
Freshman Kelcy
Brown had 11 assists.
In the second half of the doubleheader, Maki and Mary Harshman paced
the victors with 11 kills each. Brown had 38 assists to break into
double digits for the first time this season while Amber DeHaven led
the defense with 18 digs.
The Hornets host Hood College Tuesday night at 6.
