WINCHESTER, Va. - League leading Christopher Newport University
kept its USA South Conference volleyball record perfect Wednesday
evening with a doubleheader sweep over host Shenandoah University.
The Captains (15-3, 8-0 USA South) needed just 55 minutes in
each match to dispatch the Hornets (7-7, 1-7). CNU was a 25-7,
25-16, 25-19 winner in the opening match and then won at all three
sets at 15 in the nightcap.
Kara Elder led the victors in that opening match by posting a
match-high 10 kills while Jessie Heavenrich had 15 assists and
Alyssa Kidd 10.
Senior Jessi Johnson had
five kills for SU with Kelcy Brown adding 14
assists and Amber DeHaven 10
digs.
In the nightcap, Elder and Caitlyn Jansen each had 11 kills to
help CNU to the sweep.
Samantha
Larcomb had four kills for the hosts; Brown and DeHaven
finished off their solid performances with 13 assists and 11 digs,
respectively.
Shenandoah hosts Peace and N.C. Wesleyan this Saturday in a
tri-match beginning at 11 a.m.
