WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University ran its season opening
volleyball winning streak to four matches Tuesday afternoon with a
3-1 non-conference victory over Hood College.
The Hornets (4-0) started strong with 25-15, 25-16 victories in
sets one and two before Hood (0-2) rallied for a 25-19 win in the
third.
Shenandoah then clinched the match with a dominating 25-13, set
four victory.
SU had a very balanced offensive performance in the win,
with Mary
Harshman and Rachel Maki
contributing eight kills each and Megan Gillespie
seven.
Freshman Kelcy Brown had a
double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs; she was one of four
players to register double-digits in the latter category. Amber DeHaven
had 18, Emily Jones 15 and
Harshman rounded it out with 13.
Ashley Jones paced the Blazers with seven kills while Chelsea
Weaver had 24 digs.
The Hornets are back in action this weekend with a tri-match at
the College of Notre Dame against the host Gators and Trinity
(D.C.).
