LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Lynchburg College won the battle of the
field hockey Hornets, defeating Shenandoah 4-1 Sunday afternoon in
a non-conference contest.
Lynchburg (10-2) scored its opening goal in the 13th minute and
then added what proved to be the game-winner just over two minutes
later against SU (6-5).
Senior Paola Aguilar had Shenandoah's only goal, tallying
unassisted in the 55th minute.
In addition to the goals in the 13th and 16th minutes, LC padded
its advantage with unassisted goals in the 30th and 49th
minutes.
SU Hornets goalkeeper Sarah Clare had a school-record 26 saves
in the losing effort.
Clare's performance breaks the record of 24, set last season by
junior Danielle Lawson.
Lynchburg outshot Shenandoah 59-7 and held a 20-1 advantage in
penalty corners.
SU continues play against future ODAC opponents by hosting Sweet
Briar on Wednesday at 4:30.
