FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University staged a furious
comeback, but fell just short in a 4-3 USA South Conference men's
soccer loss at Methodist Saturday afternoon.
Methodist (6-5, 1-0 USA South) scored the opening three goals of
the game and led 4-1 before the Hornets (3-6-1, 0-1) began to
rally.
Jarod Clyburn put SU on the board with his unassisted goal at
50:02, and after the Monarchs answered 17 minutes later, Kyle Masson got the comeback started in the 75th minute.
Masson cut the deficit to two, 4-2, by beating MU keeper Kyle
Beach with his shot from the left corner.
Just over six minutes later, Tyler Jumper brought the Hornets to
within one with a great individual effort.
Jumper beat his defender and then tucked the ball inside the
right post to make it 4-3 Methodist with 9:14 to play.
Unfortunately for Shenandoah, it ran out of time before getting
the equalizing goal.
Freshman Adrian Acosta had six saves in the losing effort.
SU is back in action Wednesday at St. Mary's of Maryland.
