ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University dropped a pair of USA
South Conference matches Saturday afternoon at N.C. Wesleyan.
Shenandoah (8-9, 2-8 USA South) opened with a 3-0 loss to N.C.
Wesleyan before Peace took a 3-2 marathon decision.
N.C. Wesleyan (10-7, 6-2 USA South) was a winner at 14, 20 and
15 over the Hornets in the opening match while Peace won 31-29,
14-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-4.
SU gave it everything it had against the Pacers, but fell behind
7-0 in the decisive fifth set and could get no closer than six
points the rest of the way.
The Bishops were dominant in the opening match, allowing
Shenandoah to hold the lead on just one serve rotation the entire
way.
Junior Rachel Maki paced
SU against NCWC with seven kills and sophomores Megan Gillispie
and Mary
Harshman added six and five, respectively.
Gillispie also had a match-high 13 digs.
Against PC, Gillispie had 15 kills and Maki 13 in the losing
effort. Both women recorded double-doubles with 17 and 16 digs,
respectively.
Brooke Strathy had 23 assists and Kelcy Brown 16.
Shenandoah travels to Christendom for a non-league doubleheader
on Monday.
