ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Host Elizabethtown College kept Shenandoah
University winless in Commonwealth Conference play with a 5-0 field
hockey victory Wednesday afternoon.
E-town (11-3, 4-1 CC) scored four times in the first half to
coast home to the victory over the Hornets (8-7, 0-5).
Caitlin Grimes registered what proved to be the game-winner,
scoring off of a Nadine Yunginger assist in the eighth minute.
Liz DeMatteis then posted a natural hat trick, scoring in the
21st, 28th and 32nd minutes to send the Blue Jays into the halftime
lockerroom with the four-goal advantage.
An Ali Cavanaugh goal with exactly two minutes remaining was the
only goal of the second half.
Elizabethtown had a 19-7 advantage in shots and took nine of the
game's 14 corners.
SU keepers Danielle Lawson and Sarah Clare made
a combined five saves.
Shenandoah continues Commonwealth play on Saturday with an 11
a.m. contest against Widener. It is also Senior Day for the
Hornets.
